Muslims came to the tavern to come
I wish Muslims came out of the pub
The biggest sign of mental and intellectual degradation and decline of any nation or society is to wait for a messiah or a savior instead of changing one's condition. The American author and columnist, Franklin P. Adams, said, "The tragedy of this country is that there are too many statesmen who, based on their experience, believe to the point of faith that all men can be fooled forever." "But politicians do not have a monopoly on making fools in the beloved homelandRather, be it judges or generals, all try to entertain and entertain the nation by becoming messiahs and saviors. We are so simple that we start worshiping the ever-rising sun. A famous phrase from German writer and playwright Bertolt Brecht's famous play "Galileo's Story" comes to mind: "Unfortunate is the land that is in search of a hero". Who is better than us Pakistanis? Unfortunate will be those who have been on the path of heroes for years. Sometimes they hope for a general. So sometimes the people sitting on the seat of justice start looking at the judge with pleading eyes.
When I see the plight of the spectators in the political theater of Pakistan, I remember the most popular play of the 20th century, "Waiting for Godot" written during the unorthodox movement. If Samuel Beckett had been alive, he would surely have cried out, Tyrants! Godot has come. Written in French, this play has been translated into many languages and there is hardly a day when this play is not performed in some corner of the world. Thus, there are five characters in this play, but the focus is only on two people, one of whom is Vladmir and the other is called Estrogen. After watching the drama, it seems that the political situation of Pakistan has been reflected. As our people's memory is weak, the epidemic of forgetting very quickly is common, history is constantly repeating itself, it seems as if we are on a journey of circles and after a few years we return to where we came from. The beginning of the journey, similarly, there is a lot of repetition in this play by Samuel Beckett. The same thing is repeated so many times that it starts to feel boring. These characters have only one purpose in life, to wait for Godot. They don't know who Godot is? But still wait for it and die while living. To escape from this pointless waiting, they make many efforts, they tease the story of the Bible, they discuss meaningless topics. A boy arrives who says that Mr. Gadot has sent him, he may not be able to come today but he will definitely come tomorrow. In the second part of the play, the next day begins, and they have forgotten everything about the previous day, but they remember that they are waiting for Godot. When the boy comes again, he also does not remember the previous day's meeting and says that he is meeting them both for the first time, but the boy introduces himself as Gadot's messenger and says that Mr. Gadot is here today. will not be able to come but they will definitely come tomorrow. Vladmir and Estrogen get fed up and start insulting each other and then decide to commit suicide. They both think of hanging themselves from the tree under which they are talking. Estrogen pulls out his belt and tries to hang himself in a noose. Suicide attempt is not successful due to broken belt. They postpone the decision to hang from the tree until their Messiah comes. The play ends but the waiting does not and Godot never arrives.
Who is Godot after all? Some critics believe that Samuel Beckett created the character of "Godot" by borrowing the marketing term "bot" used in France. Most critics take it to mean God, but Samuel Beckett does not support either of these concepts. When the author was questioned, he said, if he had known who Gadot was, would he not have brought her on stage? However, to the extent that everyone agrees that Godot is a messiah or savior who is awaited and does not come. We Pakistanis are also looking for a messiah, savior or hero for years. Has that hero appeared in the form of Qazi Faiz Isa?
