(The conquest of Samarqand is an unforgettable event of Islamic history which will make you cringe after reading it...)
Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (peace be upon him).
The messenger who had come from Samarkand after a long journey wanted to meet the ruler of the Islamic Empire “Umar bin Abdul Aziz”.
He had a letter in which a non-Muslim priest had complained about the Muslim commander Qutiba bin Muslim.
The priest wrote!
“We had heard that Muslims call for Islam before war and attack. If the invitation is not accepted, then they demand to pay jizya and if someone refuses to accept these two conditions, then they are ready for war. But this was not done to us and we were suddenly attacked overnight and conquered."
This letter was written by the greatest priest of Samarqand to the ruler of the Islamic Empire, Umar bin Abdul Aziz.
While inquiring about the residence of the emperor from the people of Damascus, the messenger reached a house that was in a very poor and dilapidated condition. A man was plastering the roof by climbing a ladder attached to the wall and a woman standing below was picking up mortar and giving it to him.
He returned to the people who had told him the way by the way he had come.
He said to the people, I asked you for the address of the king of the Islamic kingdom and not for the poor person whose roof is also broken.
The people said, "We told you the address correctly, that is the house of Umar bin Abdul Aziz, the ruler of the time."
Disappointment fell on the messenger and he went to the same house again and knocked, the person who had been knocking for a while appeared from inside.
The messenger introduced himself and gave the letter to Umar bin Abdul Aziz.
Umar bin Abdul Aziz read the letter and wrote on the back of the same letter:
Umar ibn Abdul Aziz to his agent appointed in Samarkand: "Appoint a judge who will hear the priest's complaint." Sealed the letter and gave it back to the messenger.
When the messenger returned to Samarkand and told the priest the answer to the letter and the account of the meeting, the priest was also disappointed.
He thought.. Is this the letter that will drive out that great army of Muslims from our city? He believed that this piece of paper would not be of any use to him.
But there was no other way, so the Amir Lashkar and the ruler of Samarqand came to Qutiba bin Muslim with a letter.
As soon as Qutiba read the letter, he immediately appointed a judge who could hear the complaint of the Samarkandites against him.
Qazi asked the priest, what is your claim?
The priest said: Qutiba attacked us without any prior notice, neither did he invite us to accept Islam nor did he give us a chance to think.
Qazi looked at Qutiba and asked, what do you say in response to this claim?
Qutiba said: Qazi Sahib, war is always deception and deception.
Samarkand was a great country, the inferior countries of its vicinity had neither accepted Islam by obeying any of our invitations nor were ready to pay jizya, but preferred war over us.
The lands of Samarkand were even greener and stronger, we were sure that these people would also prefer to fight, we took advantage of the opportunity and captured Samarkand.
Qazi, ignoring Qutiba's words, asked again: Qutiba, answer my words, did you inform these people to accept Islam, Jizya or war?
Qutiba said: No Qazi Sahib, as I have already submitted that we took advantage of the opportunity.
Qazi said: I see that you are confessing your mistake, after that there is no other work of the court.
Allah gave victory and greatness to this religion only because of justice and fairness and not because of fraud and opportunism.
My court decrees that all the Muslim soldiers and their officials, along with their wives and children, leave behind all their property and booty and go out of the boundaries of Samarkand and that no Muslim should remain in Samarkand.
If you want to come here again, you should not come without prior notice and invitation and without giving three days to think about it.
What the priest was seeing and hearing was incredible. Within a few hours, the great army of Muslims had left the city in caravans.
Samar Qandis had never seen such a situation in their history when a strong conqueror nation gave independence to a weak conquered nation like this.
In the light of the setting sun, people started whispering to each other about what kind of religion they are and how they follow it. This standard of justice is to judge against oneself. And the powerful commander bowed his head to this decision and acted on it.
History is a witness that in a short time, all the people of the city, led by the priest, came out of their homes and ran to the borders behind the army and brought them back, confessing La ilaha illa Allah Muhammad ul Rasulullah, that this is your kingdom. And we will be proud to be your subjects.
The religion of mercy left such impressions there that Samarkand remained the capital of Muslims for a long time.
Once upon a time, the ummah of Hazrat Muhammad, the leader of two worlds, used to be like this. Today, non-Muslims are far away, Muslims have no protection from Muslims.
What was that kidney that you have a broken star
